Comparing SMS and WhatsApp API providers in India
Most comparison pages are written to make one product win. This one is a checklist instead, because the differences that matter between Indian messaging providers are structural — who bills you, who owns your number, how rates are quoted — and those are questions you can ask anyone, including us.
The five questions that separate providers
A provider who answers all five clearly is one you can plan around. Features are easy to match; billing structure and ownership are not.
- Who bills my WhatsApp message delivery — Meta directly, or the provider? If the provider, what is their margin per message?
- Is my WhatsApp Business Account and phone number registered under my business, or under theirs? This determines whether I can leave.
- What is the per-SMS rate at my actual monthly volume, in writing, and what happens when volume changes?
- Is there a setup fee, an annual lock-in, or a minimum wallet commitment?
- If I leave, do I keep my number, my templates and my message history?
Where BrookTel stands
| Question | BrookTel's answer |
|---|---|
| Who bills WhatsApp delivery? | Meta, directly to your own Meta Business account. No markup from us. |
| Who owns the WhatsApp number? | You. It sits under your Meta Business Manager. |
| How is SMS priced? | Per message from your prepaid wallet, at a rate quoted against your monthly volume. |
| Setup fee or lock-in? | None. Plans are monthly. |
| Platform cost | ₹0 to ₹999/month for standard plans; Custom tier for high volume. |
| Can you leave? | Your number, Meta account and wallet balance are yours. |
Why we do not publish competitors' prices
You will find pages elsewhere quoting rival rate cards to the paisa. Those numbers go stale fast, are usually the list price rather than the negotiated one, and are quoted selectively to flatter whoever wrote the page.
So we do not do it. Get a written quote from each provider you are considering, ask the five questions above, and compare the answers side by side. If our model does not suit you, one of the others genuinely will — and you should be able to work that out without us telling you what they charge.
When BrookTel is a good fit
- You want SMS and WhatsApp on one platform rather than two vendors
- You want Meta billing you directly so your WhatsApp unit costs are verifiable
- You have developers and would rather read docs than sit through a demo
- You want DLT help that is substantive rather than a link to a portal
- You are in India and want INR billing, GST invoices and same-timezone support
When it is not
- You need voice, email or RCS in the same platform — we are SMS and WhatsApp only
- You want a fully bundled single per-message invoice and do not care about the split
- You need a large managed-services team to run campaigns for you
- You need messaging in markets outside India as your primary volume
- You want a no-code visual flow builder as the centre of your workflow today
Frequently asked questions
Which is the best bulk SMS provider in India?
There is no single answer, and any page claiming otherwise is marketing. Enterprises with omnichannel needs, small shops wanting the cheapest possible SMS, and startups wanting a clean API all have genuinely different best answers. Use the five questions above against your own requirements.
Can I use two providers at once?
Yes, and some teams do — one for SMS, another for WhatsApp, or a second as failover. Your DLT registration is yours and works across providers, so you are not locked in by compliance.
How hard is it to migrate providers?
SMS is straightforward: your DLT entity, header and templates are registered to you, so you point your API calls elsewhere. WhatsApp is harder — if your number is registered under a provider's Business Account rather than your own, moving it is their decision, not yours. That is exactly why question two on the checklist matters.
